Paper Bag...What's This???

Why do I have a picture of a paper bag?  Well, this paperbag contains my wood mounted stamp for the Wood Mount Game.
Please bring a new, or gently used (like new) wood mounted stamp that you no longer need, that is at least 2 inches by 3 inches.
Jessie Hurley has a very funny story that will enable you to have a new stamp for yourself, as well as find a new home for your old favorite.

Make n' Take in Honolulu at J's Knicknacks

Don't let the name fool you.

J's Knicknacks has a massive inventory of papercraft products.

Cliff and Cheryl, the owners of J's Knicknacks, have kindly coordinated a Make n' Take with our talented instructor, Gail Matsuba.

Those of us who are interested, will meet Gail Saturday morning, September 29 at 8:45 am.  The meeting location will be at the Guest Services Desk on Promenade Deck 2, midship. Gail has been to Honolulu many times and she will advise us how to get to the store, either by bus or taxi.  In addition, after our outing at J's Knicknacks, Gail has volunteered to take anyone interested in shopping at a nearby mall.

Is this going to be fun, or what?

J's Knicknacks is located at 1869 South King Street, in Honolulu.  The store hours are 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Card Swap Update

I'm sure you're wondering about this mixture of cardstock.  Well, these are the papers that I will be using to make cards for the card swap.

At this point, you will be safe if you make 20 cards.  We have 18 members in our group (including the fabulous K who just signed up this week).

We definitely urge all 18 of you to participate.  You will have so much fun.

Here is a great true story about a guest from our previous cruise.  This guest had just started stamping and was worried that her cards were too simple for the swap.  No way!  Sleek simple cards are very versatile.  After the card swap, and the cruise, this gal had gained enough self-confidence and knowledge from the classes aboard the cruise, that she began selling her cards at craft fairs.

How cool is that!

Remember if you are new to cardmaking, or a seasoned cardmaker, please join us in the card swap.  You will love the experience.

Just a couple of notes about the cards:

-Please make a full card with a front and a back side.
-Please don't write inside the card.  In this way, it can be used to give to someone special in the future.  Attach a post-it-note to the back of the card with your name.
-Including an envelope for your card is optional, but is a nice touch.
-Please make 20 identical cards.  You may have one or two extra but that's OK.  In fact, I used a couple of my extra cards from last time to give to special people I met on the cruise.

Maui - Scrapbooking Store, Island Paperie

I spoke to Alicia, the owner of Island Paperie in Maui today.  She had lots of fabulous things to say about her store.  Island Paperie is the only scrapbook store in the world that sells it's own line of scrapbook paper, diecuts and rubberstamps which are Hawaiian themed.  How cool is that!  Many of the store's products are featured on her website, http://www.islandpaperie.com/
The store is located at 395 Dairy Road, Kahului in Maui.  Alicia said the store is about 1 mile away from the pier, on the biggest street in Maui, so a short taxi drive may be the best way to get there.  It is situated in a business area so there is other shopping close by.  Also, Island Paperie will be open 10 AM to 5 PM both days we are docked in Maui, September 27 and 28.

Guest Instructor...drum roll please...

Freebies every "At-Sea" Day

Aloha Cardmakers,

Everyday that we are "At-Sea" which means that we are not in a port, in a Hawaiian island, we will have a free fun event in the afternoon:

*Sept 19 will be the "Meet and Greet" with Jessie and the other cardmakers. Believe me, you will make great friends. If it wasn't for the previous Sailing with Scissors cruise, I wouldn't have known Gail M. Now, she will is my cabin roommate for the Hawaiian cruise.

Jessie will be giving out the goody bags. The bags were fabulous last time; they will be just as awesome for this cruise.

*Sept 20 is the Wood Mount Game - This game was a hit so we brought it back again. However, this time we will make sure no one gets her own rubber stamp back! I messed things up last time. Ha ha. All you need to bring is a wood mount stamp from your stash (you know you have several) that is new, or very slightly used that is at least 2 inches by 3 inches. Jessie has a hilarious stamper story that ensures your beloved stamp will go to a good home and you get a new awesome stamp. We all loved the stamps we received when we played the game in Alaska.

*Sept 21 is a free make n' take which I will be hosting. You will be making a card using a new cool technique. The card and technique will be fabulous. Also, I will have prizes. Can it get better than this.

*Sept 22 is the card swap. You bring a bunch of identical cards (I'll give you the number you need to bring in a new post. Or, just call Jessie at the store) and swap with the other participants. Last time, Jessie was supposed to choose the nicest card. This was an impossible task because all the cards were beautiful. The participants took a vote on which card they liked the best. That person receives a prize. I have used all the cards I received previously for friends and family. They were great. Don't worry if you are a beginner. The simple cards were great for my minimalist friends. Check out the earlier posts with samples of the cards in the Alaskan swap.

*Sept 23 - Our fabulous Jessie will do one of her famous Neat Niques. Every Saturday Jessie hosts a information session on a really neat technique. I have been to several of these sessions and they are really interesting. Bring a pen and a piece of paper to take notes.

--The remainder of the days are "Port days".

Eight Months until Sailing

Now that the holidays have come and gone, it's time to focus on Sailing With Scissors to Hawaii.

Hello Cardmakers!

We haven't had too much to report for a while so the blog has been quiet.

Here is a bit of scoop. I was speaking to the travel agent who is organizing the cardmaking cruise to Hawaii for us, Donna Athey, and she said that the group has room for SIX CARDMAKERS ONLY!

Wow can you believe that.

If you are still thinking about booking the cruise, please note that the big number "six" doesn't count for non-cardmaking ship guests.

This means that if you're a cardmaker and your cabin pal is not participating in any of the classes, then we will have room for five more cardmakers.

I hope this makes sense.

We have less than a year...wow!

Cool Leftovers

Here is a card I made using a couple of cool tidbits from our last Sailing with Scissors cruise. Firstly, I don't have any "uncle" stamps so one of the newsletters talked about printing a custom salutation using your computer printer. I printed a really nice birthday greeting for my uncle in brown ink, on vanilla cardstock. I then cut it out with a nestability. Then, I used a really beautiful piece of decorative paper from a paper pack that we had received in our goody bags, thanks to Jessie and her sponsors.

Did I mention that Jessie is doing another goody bag for this cruise? Oh yes. That is happening.

Awesome New Store!

I just visited our hostess Jessie at her new store, on Schoolhouse Road. I love the central location. I drove there in 15 minutes from Metrotown.
The store is open and airy with lots of windows and natural bright lighting. Jessie was talking to 8 customers all at the same time, yesterday. That lady is talented.

Go check it out. You can't miss it, just look for the "Remember Me" Scrapbooking sign.
